Too all trewe Christen people, to whome thys presente wrytinge indentyd of awarde shall come, or the same shall see, here or rede, Wyllyam, earle of Wyllsheire, || marques of Wyn chest er and Lorde Treasorer of Englonde, sendeth greetinge. Whereas certeine controuersies, slryves and dis- cordes heretofore haue byn stirred, moued and dependynge betwene the U alderman and merchauntes of the Stylliarde within the cytie of London, on the one partie, and Rycharde Yonge, citizeine and grocer of the citie of London and packer of the same citie, on the other partie, || for and conser- ninge the packeynge of clothes and wares by the saide alderman and merchauntes of the Styllyarde aforesaide or any of them, and for the fees and charges incidente to the packer for his trauell and paynes aboute the same; for the appeasinge whereof the Lordes and others of the quenes moste hono rable pry vie counsell haue required and desiered me, the saide Lorde Treasorer, to call before me the saide alderman and merchauntes of the Styllyarde aforesaide and the saide Rycharde Yonge, packer of the citie of London, and to here and determyne the saide matters in varyance, as aforesaid. Whereupon I, the saide Lorde Treasorer, accordinge to the desiere and requestes of the saide Lordes, haue called before me the saide parlies sometime in the presence of the Lorde Maior of the citie of London and certeine of his brotheren, the alderman and recorder of the same citie, and at sundrie other tymes before dyuerse others, and coulde not at any tyme by the space of these two or three yeres nowe paste bringe them to eny good quietnes or concorde, till nowe by the good aduise and meanes of Thomas Smythe and Willyam Byrde, gentlemen, customers of the porte of the citie of London, by theire trauell with the saide parties, at the medyacion of me, the saide Lorde Treasorer taken, the saide alderman for hymselfe and his company, the marchauntes of the Stylliarde aforesaide, and the saide Rycharde Yonge, packer of the citie of London aforesaide, haue fully and absolutely determyned themselfes to stonde, obeye and performe the order and determynacion of me, the saide Lorde Treasorer, of and vpon all the saide matters in varyaunce betwene them. And thereuppon I, 182 1563, April 9.
the saide Lorde Treasorer, takeinge vpon me the order and delermynacion of the saide varyaunces by and wytb the mntuall assentes and agreementes of bothe the same parties, doo awarde, order, deute and iudge of and vpon the premisses in manner and fourme followinge. That is to save: firste I doo awarde and order by these presentes, that the alderman and merchauntes of the Styllyarde shall pay to the saide packer for every maunde of greate or small lambeskynnes or shepeskynnes twelve peuce, and for euery loast clothe a hälfe penny, for euery three carseis a hälfe penny, and for every fewer dozeines a half penny, and for a fardell of wollen clothe, greate or small, tenne pence, and for euery maunde of connyskynnes, greate or small, nyne pence, and for euery hundreth goades of cotton packed one penny. And that the saide alderman and merchauntes shall requier the saide packer or his deputie, to see and vnderstande of theire packeinge, before they or any of them shall make his or theire entrie in the customers bookes, what he packeth. And that the alderman of the Stillyarde shall vndertake the same entrie to be truly done by the merchaunle, that oweth the clothe. Also I doo awarde and order by these presentes, that the saide packer shall haue libertie and accesse at all time and times conuenient to the customers bookes, to see whither the entrie in the customers bookes be made agreeable to the packeinge. And further I doo awarde and order by these presentes, that the saide packer shalbe called to the ouersighte of all manner of marchaundizes goinge forthe, as leade, tynne, corrupte butter, listes, saffron, and all other wares not before expressed, to the ioteote the queues maiestie may be the better serued; for that the saide packer is contente not to take euv thinge for the ouersighte of the saide wares, other then for these wares and merchaundyzes, that be by me before rated and agreed vpon. Also I doo awarde and iudge by these presentes, that the saide alderman and merchauntes of the Styllyarde before the last daye of June nexte cominge shall well and truly pay or cause to be paide to the saide Rycharde Yonge, packer aforesaide, all suche somme and somrnes of money, as by them or any of them is nowe vnpaide for the packeing of any of the wares, by them or any of them shipped before the date hereof after the rates, as is by me, the saide Lord Treasurer, before adiudged and awarded. And finally I doo awarde and order by these pre sentes, that the saide Rycharde Yonge or his assignes at all tyme and tymes hereafter from lime to tvme, at and vpon the reasonable requeste and lawfull warnynge of the alderman and merchauntes of the saide Stilly a rd or eny of them, shall at the rates and prices aforesaide see the packinges of the goodes and wares of the saide alderman and merchauntes and euery of them at theire willes and pleasures for theire good expedycioo.
In wytnes whereof to either parte of this my presenle wry tinge of awarde indentid, I the saide Lorde Treasurer, haue sett my haude and seale.
Youen the nyneth day of Aprill, in the yere of oure Lorde God a thowsande fyve huudrelh threescore and three, and in the fyveth yere of the raigne of oure soueraigne lady Elizabeth, by the grace of God quene of Englonde, Fraunce and Irelonde, defendor of the faythe etc.
