William Rex. Right Trusty and Well beloved, We greet You well. Whereas the Agent of the Hans Towns residing here, did some time since present a Memorial unto Us, touching certain Im munities and Privileges, humbly claimed by him, for the House called the Still-Yard; and the like Memorial having been formerly presented unto Our Royal Uncle, King Charles the Second of happy Memory, and by him referred to the then Lord Mayor of that Our Citty of London, the Matter there of was, in every particular consented unto and approved, vizt. that the said Agent and the House called the Still-Yard, in Our said City of London, ought to be exempted from all Duties and Taxes whatsoever; We did by Our Letters bearing Date the 24 day of May, in the first Year of Our Reign, signify Our pleasure to the then Lord Mayor and Court of Aldermen of Our said City, that as well out of a Desire to maintain and continue the Immunities and Privileges, granted to the said Hans Towns, by Our Royal Predecessors, as in regard Our Subjects, residing in any of the said Hans Towns, did enjoy the like or greater Privileges there, the said Agent and House, should be freed from all Duties and Taxes, and that effectual Ordres should be given, not only for restoring to the said Agent any distress that had been made upon him, but likewise that for the future no Molestation or Distress whatsoever should made upon him, under pretence of refusing to pay any Duties or Taxes whatsoever. And whereas the said Agent hath by another Memorial lately presented unto Us, represented, that notwithstanding Our said former Letters, such has been the practice of some in the ward of Dowgate, as to make another Attempt on the said House and Agent, by distraining and ta king away the said Agents Goods, to the Value of about Twenty Pounds Sterling, and therefore in the Name of the respective Hans Towns, praying the Conservation of the said Ancient Privileges, be longing to the said House and Agent, and Our Directions therein: We have thought fit to signify Our pleasure, and accordingly the same is, that the said Agent and House, be not only freed from all Duties and Taxes whatsoever, but that You also forthwith give effectuall Orders for restoring to him the Goods lately distrained; and for the future that no Molestation be given, nor distress made upon him, under pretence of refusing to pay any Duties or Taxes whatsoever. Quia intelleximus, quod Vos lanas et mercimonia Arnoldi Scolelmund, *) Johannis le Core, Luderi de Dertemund,3) Werneri de la Rige, et Richen, filii Cinnert, mercatorum ducis de ßruneswick, de Lubek et de Dertmund pro eo, quod communicaverunt cum Flandrensibus contra inhibitionem nostram, et etiam pro eo, quod qvandam navem, sine licenlia nostra, lanis carcari fecerunt, et insuper pro eo, quod pactum fecerunt cum quodam Lombardo de lanis suis deliberandis, videlicet pro quolibet sacco lanarum predictarum solvendo duodecim denarios, arrestari fecistis in nun dinis praedictis et ea praefatis mercatoribus adhuc delinetis: nos illud, quod ad nos pertinet de trans- gressione praedicta charissimae consorti nostrae Eleonorae, reginae Angliae, dedimus de gratia nostra speciali, et eisdem mercatoribus ad inslantiam praefatae reginae nostrae dictam transgressionem perdona- uimus et ipsos inde totaliter quietamus.
