Upper Austria

Between 2005 and 2007 the primary documents of Upper Austrian monasteries (roughly 22,000 pieces) were digitalized and made accessible online. Since 1399 the text and summaries of Upper Austrian primary source books have been the basis for metadata, from which summaries and archival reports have been created.

Lower Austria

The starting point for Monasterium.net was the digitalization of the primary sources from Lower Austrian monasteries (roughly 25,000 pieces), which was completed between 2002 and 2005. Some of the works on these have been compiled in Fontes Rerum Austriacarum, as well as in new works.

Bavaria

Aside from the documents from church archives, such as the Diocesan Archive of Passau, we handle many monastic documents from the rich pool of the Bavarian Main State Archive (which contains some 100,000 pieces), and initially the primary document portions from Diocese of Passau and areas bordering Austria. By 2008-2009 a collection approaching 30,000 primary documents should be accessible virtually through Monasterium.net
