Monasterium-Konsortium

The Monasterium-Consortium is a project open in content, location andscholarship to all cultural heritage institutions of central Europe.It has the following goals:
  1. The creation of a virtual archive of primary sources from any provenance of the Middle Ages and the early Modern Period.
  2. The use of this archive in research, teaching, and for the interested general public.
  3. The digital linking of different kinds of historical sources
The Monasterium-Consortiumis a loose collaboration of archives, libraries, scholastic institution and other cultural heritage institutions. All of these establishments work in common for the realization of aforementioned goals. The following conditions apply:
  1. Development, advancement, and compliance to the common technical and scholastic standards.
  2. Use of synergy and common interfaces in the fields of public relations, project management, marketing, digitalization, know-how, etc.
  3. Multilingualism: Equal enfranchisement of languages - multilingual accessibility to resources.
  4. 4. Ensuring the full independence of each participating institution and of their local strategies as well as protection of their legal interests to the images and text materials at www.monasterium.net .
In accordance with the goal of ensuring the greatest possible flexibility for each participating institution, it is possible to participate in the Monasterium-Konsortium in several forms:
  1. Coordinator: Organization and networking of collective projects, provision of technical and organizational infrastructure (Currently: Institut zur Erschließung und Erforschung kirchlicher Quellen, St. Pölten, Austria).
  2. Work group(active): self-supporting scholastic and technical provision of sources as well as provision and administration of data (images/text).
  3. Content Provider(passive): provision of sources for digital compilation and accessibility (ex. Monastery archives).
  4. Consultant: Collaboration with the scholastic and technical advancement of the collective project or of parts of it.
